Changing iPhones

Hi, I have set up my new (second hand) iPhone and want to delete the data from my old phone so that my husband can use it.

I have put my SIM into the new phone and it is working fine but I am unable to erase the data from my old phone so that I can transfer my husband's SIM into this one. Do I need to put my SIM back into the ld phone in order to erase the data? This seems dangerous to me as I do not want to erase my SIM.

You could put your husband’s sim in the phone then go to settings, general, reset, erase all content and settings. That will erase everything. The SIM card will not be affected.
