The Apple TV box can access the iTunes Store for movies (about 65,000 of them). These are for buy or rent. You will need an Apple ID account to register these purchases with.

You can also watch movies from other content providers, of course (Netflix, Vudu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, etc).

You can also Home Share video files from your home network. Use Home Sharing to share media from a computer to other devices - Apple Support
