I have a mid-2015 iMac now running on High Sierra. Do I have to buy a new Mac in order to run the most recent operating system?

Your Mid 2015 iMac supports the latest macOS Catalina.

However before you upgrade, you need to check and see if you have any older app's that no longer work in Catalina.

Here is the official list of models that Catalina is compatible with:

Make sure you have enough RAM (8 GB would be the absolute minimum) and a 7200 rpm spinning drive or an SSD (you will not be happy with a super slow 5400 rpm spinning drive). And keep enough empty space on your drive: at least 15 - 20 GB at all times for the OS to perform satisfactorily.
