2 phones sharing an Apple ID causing problems.

my wife and I have 2 iPhones. (1 each that is!) She had the first and we used an Apple ID that we had had when we first got iPods and iPads etc. I got a phone last year and used the same ID *** all my IPod and iPad stuff was on the Apple ID. We now get calls to her phone ending up ringing on mine and vice versa and other strange things happenng. We would like to separate the phones. Should I just set up my own ID and try and re load all the stuff IO have on my phone and also try to link to my iPad etc or is there a better way of porting what is mine to my own phone and ID?

Two users should have two different/distinct Apple IDs, each to use on their respective devices. That is the best way to setup and use the devices without confusion and postings things over.

There is a feature called Family Sharing, which you may find useful - in managing or sharing certain things.

Apple ID - create a new.

Apple ID – Create

Family Sharing.

Family Sharing - Set up.

When changing to the new ID, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed. See Winston Churchill's response in the below discussion. Also set up Family Sharing between the IDs to keep access to your apps/purchases.
