how do I update my software? I have an iMac 24-inch early 2009 and currently have mac OS X 10.11.6

10.11.6 is the latest version of macOS you can run.
So am I not able to install 10.12 or newer updates?

Is there no way around this? Because my mac has no issues and I need the updated software to run certain programs.
