Since upgrading to Catalina, this feature in Photos has not worked for me with Shared Albums (it previously did on older OS). Any thoughts on why this is occurring? I have to transfer all of the photos to an Album in my library (and keep it in Shared as it is coming from a client). This seems to be double-work to use a feature that should be available. Any thoughts? It does work fine on an older computer running Mohave. Thanks!
You do know that items in a shared album are stripped of all metadata, right? If that's were you're getting the files to make your year end video and save the originals there will be no metadata in the files. Also you may not be getting the full sized originals from the shared album. The following is from this Apple document: How to share albums in Photos on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac - Apple Support
When shared, photos are reduced to 2048 pixels on the long edge, except panoramic photos, which can be up to 5400 pixels wide. You can share GIFs that are 100MB or smaller.
Shared Albums support these video file types and formats:

Videos can be up to fifteen minutes in length and are delivered at up to 720p resolution.
To be able to export any version of the photos out of the library they must first be imported into the library. That's why you must import them from the Smart Album into the library first.

Thank you- yes, I did know that. But, I need to export all videos, with metadata intact, for a client, to an external hard drive. I make a yearly video of her family in Final Cut Pro and also give her the backup files. So, I do need to export as an unmodified original.
Did you know that you can just right-click or control-click on one or more photos in a shared album and choose Import to add them to your library? No need to export them first.
