Mac Mail rarely can print - it freezes, needs force quit

Looks like with Catalina (I have 10.15.6 on a new MacBook Pro), this is still an issue. Tried to print from Mac Mail and it hangs for several seconds on the progress bar window saying "generating content to print." Rarely it hangs there and will not progress and mail must force quit. More commonly, it proceeds to the print window, but hangs there (can't press print OR cancel). RARELY will get ever go through with the print job. Please help!! putting in screenshots below.

Boot into Safe Mode (How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support) by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists.  Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.
