Airpod location no longer showing after lost.

I lost my airpods and the location has not been updated in three weeks. Now they are no longer on my find my app. Are they gone forever? Why hasn't Apple devised a way for me to locate them or ping their new location in case I dropped them on the street and someone took them?

Hello,

If your AirPods are out of Bluetooth range, out of charge, or in the case with the cover closed, Find My won't give a current location. You just have to find them manually by looking for them. However, Find My may list the most recent location where they were last connected.

Good luck.
