Can the newest watch be paired with the 1st Gen iPhone SE?

Keen to buy this latest watch but not so keen to get a bigger iPhone.

if you can upgrade your IOS to IOS14 then it will work.

But I don't think the 1st gen will go up to IOS14

watchOS 7 requires iPhone 6s or later with iOS 14 or later
