How do I get an Alert Buzz or Notice in Catalina?

In Sierra, using Calendar, I was able to set an alert for an Event. In Catalina, I can't seem to be able to set this. Has the option been removed? So, I then tried going into Reminders. I was able to type in a new Reminder, but there's nothing about a buzz or an alert or an email that will be forthcoming. Does this just happen automatically with Reminders? What am I overlooking?
