My iphone 8 will nor download photos to my Mac Book any ideas?
I get a looped message 'unlock iphone'
My device appears intermittently on the lefthand menu in Photos above activity -
The Option to 'Open photos' again appears intermittently Top menu.
Really frustrating...
I have a MacBookPro with macOS Cantalina version 10:15:7
My iPhone8 software is also up to date.

Thanks for your help, I resolved this myself, it would not work because my USB cable was too old.
I used a new one and it worked fine, I used some free software from iMazing for Mac and it identified the problem straight away.
Please share my answer with users.
Apple should have been able to display this info, I should not have to rely on a 3rd party software provider.

Nice to see another iMazing user here! Regarding your issue, just for the future reference -- this also can happen due to a bug with USB drivers. In my case it was fixed by resetting SMC.
