AirPort Extreme is giving “this device maybe overheating” status. The unit isn’t hot and is sitting on an open desk. How can I fix this?

There is a stupid fix..

In airport utility click on edit.. go to the disk tab and turn off sharing. Update the settings.

This is assuming you don't have a disk plugged into your extreme.

The problem should go away.. if it happens again after a power down cycle.. turn sharing back on and update... same thing will happen.

It has nothing whatever to do with sharing.. it has to do with a bad sensor and the difference between a cold boot and hot reboot.

Post back if it does not work..

And start planning on replacement of the airport.
