I installed chrome to my ipad but it did not appear in settings — I would like to set it as my default browser. I’ve tried reinstalled it a few times yet it persisted. I tried other app and it immediately showed up in the settings. What happened?

Thanks for confirming that you’re not yet using the most recent version of iPadOS. You should be able to set your chosen default after updating.

The ability to set a default browser requires iPadOS14 or later to be installed. Tags appended to your post suggest that your iPad Air is running iPadOS13.
