iphoto back up to new mac running 64 bit
i backed up my entire iphoto library on external dive using time machine i tried to transfer to new imac that does no longer support 32 bit iphoto is there any way to recover over 18000 photos

HI thanks for that I think i have cracked it i thought about what you said and delved a bit deeper in to my time machine back up I looked into >users>my name> BINGO! there were back up folders of all photo albums in both my pictures and Picas back up 18000 photos you saved my life not to mention hours and hours of work and now back in the Wifes good books

Yes.
Restore the iPhoto Library (not the application) from Time Machine and then open that with Photos, which replaced iPhoto 5 years ago.

I did restore the library but unfortunately not in their albums so 18000 random pootos to sort out
