Safe to delete photos from iPhone after MacBook upload?

I just uploaded my photos from my iPhone to the photos app on my MacBook Air via a USB cable. I want to delete the photos from my iPhone but am afraid they will delete from my computer at the same time. How do I ensure this will not happen?

Check IF both devices are using iCloud to store photos. If Both are using iCloud, deleting from one will delete from both.

To insure pics on MBA are not deleted when deleting from iPhone. make sure MBA is not using iCloud to sync photos
