Looping start up chime

My mac pro 1.1 randomly shut down and on investigation I found that the CPUB led light was lit red. Searching through the forums I found some directions to remove the CMOS battery.

After doing this, everything boots up fine without the battery in, so I decided to get a new battery and now the OS just gets stuck in a booting up loop with the chime continuously going off.

Any ideas?

Once you install a new battery, the Parameter RAM/Non-Volatile RAM can remember across a power outage.

But what it contains at this moment may be garbage.
