Setting up/restoring new MBP with OS Catalina on it , with a Mojave backup from old MBP

Hi

Im wanting to restore my new Mac from a Time Machine backup of another Mac through Migration Assistant instead of setting up as new.

its a new MBP , but my last existing time machine backup is to an external drive using 10.14.6 mojave.

I don't really want to update the old MBP to catalina. Has anyone done something like this?

Will it install mojave on the new MBP?

It's called downgrading, and you must erase the drive beforehand. Please see How to Downgrade from macOS Catalina to Mojave or Earlier.
