Erratic mouse movement in Catalina 10.15.7.

Currently running Catalina 10.15.7. on a 27-inch, Late 2013 iMac.

My Logitech M705 mouse control is behaving in an erratic manner. It jumps about the screen, sometimes doesn't move at all and occasionally suddenly enlarges the pointer. Rebooting doesn't resolve the issue.

I downloaded the Firmware Update Tool from Logitech and it tells me I have the latest update.

Can anyone assist please?

Cheers.

Hey Stevie.G61!

If you haven’t come across this, let me know, otherwise hope it helps!

If your pointer is jumpy when you use a trackpad, Magic Trackpad, or Magic Mouse:

Hey again! We’re you able to try the other steps in the article? (Safe Mode, Check the adapter, etc)?

If those don’t make a difference, I’d probably create a new admin user, log into that user and test, it could be just your user profile permissions are corrupted, or there is some app/login item launching upon login, and/or a corrupt setting or preference.

But I guess another valid question before all that, is does the same happen at the login screen, even before logging in? If so, then most likely will also happen in a new user, and could be either HW or an OS issue.

If so, and safe boot makes no difference, and known good mice/keyboards have the same issue, I might run diagnostics, and if all says good, may still try reinstalling the OS from recovery mode.

Safe boot and test admin user are good ways to narrow it down though, (And testing with other devices if possible). Best of luck!

Hey again, please see my previous post, let me know the results when you can.

Also, I could be wrong, but it sounds like the movement of the cursor is also causing the enlarged version of the cursor, which is an accessibility setting:

That might not help to fix it, but may explain that particular behavior, best!

Thanks for the reply.

I disconnected the Logitech mouse and tried my Apple wired mouse and the same behaviour occurs with the wired mouse - erratic movement, enlarging pointer etc. The surface I use the mouse on has also been checked via another computer and appears to be fine. It pretty much looks like an OS glitch of some description.
