I made the mistake about 8 years ago of putting my daughters iDevices under my AppleID. I separated my oldest daughter's iPhone from my AppleID a couple of years ago when she went to college without loss of her data after she created her own AppleID and I added her to family sharing. I need to do this again with my other daughter and I don't recall the steps I used previously to prevent data loss (contacts, photos, etc).
Repeating some of what is posted above.
When changing to the new ID, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed. See Winston Churchill's response in the below discussion. If possible, also set up Family Sharing between the IDs to keep access to your apps/purchases.

Go to Settings->Account (top of settings)->Scroll down to Sign out.
Answer Yes when asked to preserve the iCloud data on the device.
Sign in again with the new Apple ID.
Repeat the Process under Settings->Messages and Settings->Facetime.
