Why can't I select only ONE page in page thumbnails (Pages App v.10.2)?

No matter what I do I can only select the two pages at the same time? I can't work out how to Select one to re-arrange my pages? Doing an assignment need answers ASAP. Thank you

Pages makes two types of documents—word Processing Documents and Page Layout documents.

Word Processing documents have a Document Body-a place where the main stream of text running through the document (and any added objects set to Move with Text) is placed.

"Pages," in a Word Processing document are added automatically as they are needed to accommodate the text in the document. To move a page, you can select the contents of that page, Note that if the page contained objects other than text, you may have to select, cut and paste those other objects separately from the text, and may experience some disruption in the flow of your document from page to page until those objects are moved to their new location.

There is an alternative, though.

The smallest unit of the document that can be selected in the thumbnails display in the left sidebar is a Section. If you have not defined any Sections, this will be the entire document. If you are able to select (and move) two adjacent pages, thse two pages are in a separate section from the Pages before them (if any) and from the pages that follow them (if any).

To move a single page using the Thumbnails, you will need to isolate that single page into a section of its own, uing these steps:

  • Click immediately after the last text on the page above the one you want to move.
  • Go to the Insert menu and choose Section Break.
  • Click immediately after the last text you want to appear on the page that is being moved. Go Insert > Section Break.
  • Click to select the thumbnail for the new single page section you have just created, and drag that section to its new location.
  • (Optional) Delete one or both of the Section breaks you added if they are not needed at their new locations.

Page Layout documents do not contain a Document Body. Any text in this type of document must be placed in a container—most ofter a Text Box or a Shape. Each Page in this type of document is a separate Section. As a Section, each page may be moved and placed before, after, or between any other Section(s) in the document. The tradeoff is that pages are not automatically generated to accommodate added text, and does not easily 'flow' through the entire document.
