The press and hold function to add accents to letters has suddenly switched off. I tried setting the key repeat to a delayed speed, but there seemed to be no help. I have not updated to Big Sur yet. Any other solution options?

Try running this command in the Terminal…
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true
Thanks, but that didn't seem to have any effect. I'm updating to Big Sur tonight, so hopefully that resolves it
