MacOS Big Sur - more space required message

Downloaded the OS Big Sur and it went through the process to the point where I could not continue because a message came up that I ran of storage space. Needed about 28 more gigs? How do I increase the storage space? MacPro Retina 2015 is upgradable to the OS Big Sur.

Big Sur is a "Universal Binary", containing BOTH Intel-code and Apple-silicon code, selected at runtime. As such it is enormous.

If upgrading from macOS Sierra or later, macOS Big Sur requires 35.5GB of available storage to upgrade. If upgrading from an earlier release, macOS Big Sur requires up to 44.5GB of available storage.
