I have an iPhone I got from my friend I updated the iOS system and it's asking for iCloud which he has forgotten and the phone is still locked how can you help me

Tell him to use Apple's iForgot service or contact their Account Security team, or the iPhone’s original owner to supply Apple with its purchase receipt and ask them to remove the lock. It's an anti-theft measure.
