In the Music app version 1.0.6.10 the search functionality is no where to be found in the mini player.
Instead you are forced to use the main search functionality which is more complex and too verbose when you are just trying to add a new song to your current playlist.

View > Show Filter Field. Unfortunately the option is not sticky, but it should at least help you find what you want.
