Find My Mac will not activate on my MacBook Pro running macaOS Big Sur 11.0.1 .
It is checked in Location Services but will not remain checked in iCloud under Apple ID.
Is there something else I need to do?

First, check out the steps here to set up Find My Mac: Set up the Find My app to locate a missing Mac.
If those are the steps you're taking, but are still having trouble with it remaining checked under iCloud, please test this in another user account on your Mac. If you don't have another user account set up, you can use the steps here to create a test user account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac.

This did work, but only after I had de-selected 'Location Services' and shutdown my MAC. After restarting I was able to set up Find My MAC using the setup procedure advised. Thanks for your help.
