Howdy,

It sounds like you would like to use Fast User Switching to be able to switch between the two users.

System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Options > [ √ ] Show fast user switching menu as …

You can also choose to see it in the Menu Bar and Control Center.

System Preferences > Dock & Menu Bar > Fast User Switching (sidebar).
