I forgot my Apple ID password and no longer have access to the email account it's attached to.

I found a 5 year-old iPad mini I forgot about and I do not remember my Apple ID password. I also no longer have access to the email account I used for reseting my Apple ID. How do erase my iPad and start fresh?

To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to one of the following:

  • Your primary email address mailbox that corresponds with your AppleID
  • Any of the secondary/recovery email addresses that should be configured for your AppleID account
  • Any of the trusted telephone numbers (fixed line or Cellular/Mobile) that are associated with your AppleID

Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.

When you recover access to your credentials, you would be well advised to log-in to your AppleID account from a web browser - and verify/update any email addresses and trusted telephone numbers:

If you don’t have access to either the primary email account (that identifies your AppleID account) or any of your secondary/recovery email addresses, you are left with your trusted telephone numbers (fixed line or mobile).

If you have failed to manage your account and keep this information up to date, your only remaining option is to locate your original sales invoice - that must clearly show the serial number of your iPad. With this document, Apple Support themselves might be prepared to assist.
