My Macbook Air gets to the login screen, but when I enter my password it shows a progress bar, but never fully completes the boot. I have let it sit for an entire day on the progress bar screen, but it never finishes.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
