Unable to reset MacBook Pro password

I can’t remember my password for my Mac. I’ve gone through the recovery process multiple times to change the password with no luck. When I get to the screen asking for me to put my Apple ID and password in, it says that it cannot connect to the Apple ID server. How do I get the Mac to connect to the Apple ID server from the reset password screen? The Mac is connected to the internet. Any ideas of what I can do? Thanks!

Are you running any anti - virus programs? Using a VPN?

Try setting up another admin user account in System Preferences/Users & Groups to see if the same problem continues. Also try the Safe Mode.

Safe Mode - About.

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. If the log won’t post, try posting it in Pastebin and provide a link in a reply. After pasting the report in a PasteBin page, go to the top of the page, and copy the address in the URL bar. Paste that in a new reply.        Pastebin.

Hi Ktina10,

Thanks for being a part of Apple Support Communities. According to your post, you've had issues resetting the administrator password on your MacBook Pro using Mojave. We've got your back!

Were you using these steps to reset the password: Reset your Mac login password If so, you could use your recovery key to reset it.

When you attempt to sign in to the Apple ID website, does it accept your username and password? Try here using a browser: Manage your Apple ID

Based on the error when you enter in the details, this could be network related. If the computer can't access Apple's server, make sure the network is set up to work with Apple devices or test another network: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

Hope that solves it for you, take care!
