Can uk purchased iPhone 6s be used permanently in Greece?

Can this phone that is my old contract phone be sent to Greece for my mum to put a Greek SIM card in and use?

If it is not locked to a provider it should work.

Contract phones are often locked and your old provider would need to unlock it first

You may not be able to get service at an Apple store if it goes wrong.
