iMovie transitions

I have a video editing program called Wondershare Filmora 9 which I have used but is third party so isn't backed up in my spanking new iMac!! The nice thing about Filmora 9 is that there are cool transitions, either in the program or that can be purchased from Wondershare. I would love to use iMovie instead of Filmora 9. Is there a website that sells transitions for iMovie?

Unfortunately, iMovie does not accept third party plug-ins for transitions. However, you can use the free Keynote app to create transitions for your clips that you can then import into iMovie. There probably are other apps out there where you can import your clips, add their special transitions, and then export the result to an Mp4 or other iMovie compatible format. Then you can import that exported video into iMovie.

Open Keynote. Do a File/New. Choose your theme (I use Classic White). Delete the text in the template so that you have a blank white screen. Drag in your video clip to the white screen. Click on the thumbnail of your video in the left clip navigator side bar. Above the right side bar click on the Animate button. In the right sidebar click on the Add an Effect button. Chose an effect from the list. Do a File/Export as/Movie. Drag movie into iMovie.

Keynote has an excellent Help menu. Click on it and type in the word Animate. You will get a drop down with several items, one item of which that says Add Transitions between Slides. Click on that and you will get more detailed instructions.

Practice with it a little and you will get the hang of it.

Thank you for your information. Are you able to help me with the project of creating transitions in Keynote and using them in iMovie?

I am not quite clear about creating my video in the third party app (I guess Filmora 9 would be one) and where I would export it too, followed by importing it to iMovie.

this sounds like something out of my realm completely but I would love to try - I am always up for a challenge!
