Can I download Big Sur now and install it later?
MacBook
Thank you so very much for your answer! However, twice I downloaded BiGSuR, and every time after it was only offered the installation of it! No possibility to save it in the finder. Is there another way?
When the download is finished, an installer will open automatically. Do NOT do anything except to quit it (use Command + Q keys). After it quits/disappears, you will find the installer in your Applications folder. Just leave it there until you want to install it.
Yes, but I would do it only a few days before the planned update so the possible updates are already baked in (I usually download such big files in the morning local time when the Americas are still asleep and the download speed is best -- later in the evening it might be much slower). (Installer certificates tend to go old after a few years which slightly complicates matters when using archived old macOS installers).
Yes. The installer will remain on the drive until used, manually deleted, or a problem occurs.

Yes. Once it downloads and opens, just quit the installer.
