WHY is there no Garageband on a new Mac - and why can I not download it from App Store?

Hi!

I have just bought a Mac from 2020, version 10.15.7 - and there is no GarageBand,? And I cannot download from Appstore, they say I need a newer version of the Mac - this Mac is from 2020?

Pretty shocking news.

Why is it not available? Have I bought a Mac from 2020 that is not up-to-date?

I really need this for my work. Very unfortunate.

You need a newer system version, unless GarageBand is in the list of your previous purchases at the AppStore - the current version of GarageBand can only be purchased from the AppStore, if you upgrade the system on your Mac to macOS 11 Big Sur. Is there a reason why you did not upgrade to macOS 11 Big Sur? See this link: https://www.apple.com/macos/big-sur/

A new Mac model from 2020 should be compatible with the most recent system.

If you have already used GarageBand 10 on a previous Mac, look at your purchase history at the AppStore. Open the AppStore, then click your name in the lower left corner and sign in. If you already purchased GarageBand on another Mac, you should find it in the list and can click the Download button to install it.
