App Store icon disappeared

Swipe down on the iPad screen when looking at the home screen to get to the search bar. Type in App and you should see the App store. Press down on the app, hold and then slide it from the search screen over to your home screen.

To get the search bar, press and hold on any empty space on the screen, then slide down. ... and you will get the SEARCH BAR. If you grab too close to the top, you will get the Notification Center.
