Can I use the old apple pencil with the new iPad Air 4th generation?

The iPad Air 4 is not compatible with the first gen pencil.

Nope.
You need to use the newer Apple Pencil 2.
The original, 1st gen Apple Pencil pairs and charges differently and is incompatible with the new 2020 iPad Air 4.
