IMovie 10.2.2 No audio during voiceover

Trying to do a voiceover on iMovie (MacBook is brand new) and the voiceover does not record anything. It creates an audio file, but it is silent. I have done all the obvious, correctly selected the microphone etc..... I have also deleted iMovie and reloaded the app, restarted the MacBook.

Has anyone had a similar issue and how was it fixed?

If you haven't already, go to System Preferences/Security & Privacy/Privacy and click on the Microphone item in the left side bar. Then scroll to iMovie in the right hand pane and put a check mark in the box to enable the microphone. You will need first to unlock by clicking on the lock icon at the bottom of the window and signing in to make changes.
