Update ... Not available??

I have a MacBook Air and I am wanting to download some apps for University. However, it says that I require an update (OS X version 10.14). When I go into updates, the option is not available?

MacBook Air 13″, OS X 10.11

El Capitan has ceased getting updates for several years. To upGRADE involves downloading a newer version of macOS. To Upgrade to another macOS is totally dependent on the Age of the Computer >> About this Mac will give the needed informations. To see what version the computer qualifies to Mojave see this Link.
