Lost all contacts after updating IOS 14.4

I'm having the same issue. It seems to be a problem with the icloud backup service. I restored the full contact list and I then did a manual backup. The backup only contained a fraction of my contacts. This should be reported to Apple as this is a subscription service.

Thanks. My phone has a contacts group called 'All Contacts' and that was already checked so it should have backed up everything but it didn't. It doesn't appear to be an issue with the group settings.

I logged into icloud on my pc and did an export of all my contacts to ensure they could be accessed in the future if my contacts are blown away again and the icloud backups with the full contact list are no longer available as they have been archived off. I imported them all into a new group and ensured that was checked on the contacts groups setting for icloud. Hopefully that will work but I can go to the vcf export as a fallback if the backup service is still misbehaving and only taking a backup on some contacts. It's a pain and seems to be an issue with the last ios upgrade. Hope it can be resolved.

I thought update 14.4.2 wiped some of my contacts, but SravanKra's answer led me to look at my Outlook email settings. Contacts were turned off. I turned them back on and the missing contacts were back in place. Thanks SO MUCH!! Problem solved!

I had exactly the same issue for weeks. Check your group settings all iPhone should be checked. You will also see a message at ath bottom of the screen

I lost some. not all. which is more strange to me than losing all. And some i can see when I initiate a message, but not when receiving messages.

Can you tell us how?
