Curious what the rates actually are for the service - and is it independent from iCloud storage?

It’s the same, in your iCloud storage, you can put photos and other stuff; here’s the prices (in USD):

0.99 cents a month for 50 GB of iCloud storage.

2.99 dollars a month for 200 GB of iCloud storage.

9.99 dollars a month for 2 TB of iCloud storage.
