Can't select drive to install macOS Big Sur

I have downloaded Big Sur and was starting the install process, however, when i get to "select the disk where you want to install macOS," i try to click on the drive, however nothing happens and i can't continue. Currently i have El Capitan loaded on the computer, but i wanted to upgrade to Big Sur.

As an fyi, this is an early 2015 macbook pro.

Do you have a recommendation of a fix to be able to move forward even though i have an after market drive?
