Resetting a very old Ipod Touch

My father recently passed away. Going through his things, I found an OLD Ipod Touch I had bought him MANY years ago. This battery seems to be holding a charge and starts up but, I don't have the four digit passcode. I'd like to reset it and use it. Any thoughts. This unit pre dates the volume buttons on the side. I mean it is an original.

If you forgot the passcode on your iPod touch, or your iPod touch is disabled - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211080
