what about the old feature of pressing command and the related number key to quickly jump to that space?
You used to be able to press command and a number key to quickly jump to that desktop in spaces. Is that still available?

It still exists... at least up to 3 Spaces.
By default, it is CONTROL, not Command.
Go to System Preferences->Keyboard->Shortcuts and click "Mission Control".
Make sure that the shortcuts are there and checked:
