I forgot the passcode for my IPad I have the serial number receipts can I backup my data whist locked out and restore the device?
If the iPad is locked - and you have forgotten the Passcode - it is too late to create a backup.
iOS/iPadOS has an encrypted filesystem. Your passcode unlocks the encryption keys that allow the Operating System to access your encrypted data. No passcode = no encryption keys = no access to data.
If your iPad is disabled, or you have forgotten your iPad passcode, you have no alternative other than to follow this process:
If you’ve forgotten the passcode on your iPad, or your iPad is disabled – Apple Support
You’ll need access to either a PC (with iTunes installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS). Any locally stored data will be unavoidably erased, however, you’ll be able to restore your data from a pre-existing iCloud or iTunes backup at the end of the procedure.
You’ll also need your AppleID and associated password. If these have also been forgotten, they can be recovered here:
To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to one of the following:
Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.
