Family sharing for child/privacy

If I create an account for my child under family sharing on an iPad, can they still access the contents on my MacBook?

No. Family Sharing allows you to selectively share purchased Apple services/subscriptions - and purchased Apps.

Family Sharing is entirely separate from any files or folders that you may choose to share via iCloud. Nothing is shared from your Mac at all unless you explicitly allow it.

Ok, that's great, thanks. He had been using my iPad while signed into my iCloud account and could see all of my documents, etc ... so, when I set up our new iPad, how should I sign up exactly? Thank you so much! You'd think after being an Apple user for 20+ years, I'd know how to navigate this type of issue .... ;)
