I the previous owner correctly performed all the steps provided in this support article:--> What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

you need to set it up using your Apple ID. If you don't have one, create it using these instructions:--> How to create a new Apple ID - Apple Support
