I'm trying to update my Mac to the latest version in order to get excel and there is no more updates appearing

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and if your MacBook Air is a 2012 or newer model, download Mojave or Catalina through the links provided. Alternatively, switch to a product such as LibreOffice.
