big sur 11.2.3 causes macbook pro screen to go black and restart

I installed Big Sur 11.2.3 48 hrs ago on my MacBook Pro. Since then the screen on my laptop has randomly frozen, gone black, given me a statement saying to Hit one key to Restart, AT LEAST SIX TIMES A DAY. This never happened before installing this software update, much less SIX TIMES A DAY. One of those times was during a Zoom meeting I was hosting, grrr. At all these times laptop has been plugged in and battery at 100%. Anyone have any ideas?

Molten,

It would seem you may have narrowed it down, however, I'm not confident that it is 100% the update. This could also be caused by an application that's not playing nice with Big Sur. Do you have a time machine backup? The reason I ask is you may benefit from re-installing macOS through recovery. This comes with the chance that you may lose your data(SO MAKE A BACKUP).

If the issue persists after reinstalling, I would suggest checking your applications are all up-to-date and have no known issues. If you're unable to find the cause: Erase your hard drive(VERY LAST RESORT) and then reinstall macOS. Proceed to then install your third-party applications one at a time until you either get the same issue or nothing happens.

If you don't feel comfortable following these steps: reach out to Apple Care Support.

I have the same issue with my Mac Book Pro since I installed 11.2.3 two days ago. In fact it looks to me the laptop is not frozen, it's just that the screen backlight is randomly turned off (or luminosity very low)) : you can guess the screen is still active if you watch it in strong light...

The only workaround I found at this stage is not hitting a key - this does not work for me - but closing and re-opening the lid...

And sometimes the screen is fine until the lid reaches a given position, and then it goes black : could also be the display connector ?

same issue. Dont know how Apple is day by day releases software update full of bugs/glitch.

Earlier updates, at least everybody had the confidence of updating the system. Now users are afraid to update it just because Apple is losing its brand of quality.

Request to Apple is to please hear and do the proper quality testing of softwares.

Note: Also if possible please roll out fix for this bug.
