Creating a Apple ID after sharing with someone

I’ve been sharing a Apple ID with my Mom, and I’ve been thinking about creating a new Apple ID. Only thing is I don’t want to lose everything. Like apps, wallpapers, messages, photos etc.. if I make a new one and family share, will I lose everything?

iPhone XR, iOS 14

Correct. You MAY (depends on the app) be able to use the apps that are on your device already, but you will run into problems if you need to update them. The only work-around is that the apps will still associated with your Mom's Apple ID. She can use Family Sharing and share that app with you. If 13 years old or older.

Apple ID - create a new.

Apple ID – Create

If under 13 years old, you will need to set up Family Sharing to create an ID.

Family Sharing and Apple ID for your child.

Family Sharing.

Family Sharing - Set up.

When changing to the new ID, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed. See Winston Churchill's response in the below discussion. Also set up Family Sharing between the IDs to keep access to your apps/purchases.

If you are under 13 years old and want your own Apple ID, your Mom will need to set up Family Sharing to create an ID for you and she will become the Family organizer. There is no other way.

If you are over 12 years old, the choice is yours. (You can still use the Family Sharing method, but you don't have to.) In the long run you will probably be better off with your own Apple ID. As long as you are sharing an Apple ID you will continually have problems like receiving each other messages, etc.
