Unable to SAVE in MS Word 2019 after installing Big Sur on MacBook Pro 2019

Since installing Big Sur and its updates on my MacBook Pro 2019 in December, I am having problems with all the SAVE functions in Word 2019. If I select Save, Save As, Close, or Save as Template, the screen moves rapidly back and forth and only stops when I hit escape. All my Office 2019 apps are up-to-date, including Word. I am currently working around by sending the file to myself, them saving and renaming, but this is no way to be productive. Maddening! Perhaps I need to reinstall Word 2019 and all the MS updates? Help!!!! Thanks.

Boot into Safe Mode by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Have you explored Word's Preference panel to see if there are some non-intuitive settings for Save in there? Have you posted a question in Microsoft's own support community solely for Mac Office 2019 Word users?

Thanks for your reply. I checked out the Preferences, especially for Save, and tried adjusting some of the settings. Sadly, it still made no difference. I had posed this question a month or so ago in the MS community, and the only suggestion was to update my Office apps, which are already on auto update. I checked the Office Suite again this morning, and they are updated as of March 9 and March 15. I've tried again just a few minutes ago with the MS community, and will see if any help comes from that group. If not, do you think it makes sense to uninstall and re-install Word 2019? Thanks again for your help.

FWIW, I use a Microsoft 365 subscription on a number of my Macs / iOS devices. The Macs that run macOS Big Sur are not having this issue with saving from MS Word. I just tried it again to verify my reply to you. I tried saves to both my Mac and to OneDrive.
