Hi. How seriously should I take the following message that keeps popping up on my iPad every half hour: “Your phone may be infected by a malicious programme”. What should I do and also how can I get rid of a half-hourly calendar that has recently appeared? Thank you folks.

The problem that you describe should be very easy to resolve.
It is highly probable that an inadvertent click on a website link has “subscribed” an additional (unwanted) Calendar to your device - and this unexpected Calendar is exposing unwanted calendar events and sending you unexpected “adverts” or other warnings.
You need to check for what’s out of place...
iOS/iPadOS13 and earlier: Settings > Passwords and Accounts
iOS/iPadOS14: Settings > Calendar > Accounts
Look for an “account” that shouldn’t be in the list of accounts - as this will likely include the Calendar that contains all the unwanted events. When you find the suspect account, tap - then select Delete Account. This should resolve the problem in its entirety.

I’m glad to hear you were able to resolve your problem. Please note that the sandboxed nature of iOS makes the existence of an antivirus impossible. Anything that claims to be an antivirus is lying.
iPhone malware is very, very, very rare. In practice, it’s almost impossible to get it.
